Owners Marilyn and Dennis Austin welcome you to Austin's Caravans & Leisure Centre. The exciting news is that we are now Australias largest and most fascinating caravan and leisure outlet with a humungeous range of products rarely seen on one site. It's truly exciting and inspiring. Spread
over 12,000 square metres with a separate 900 square metre workshop and
showroom and offices totalling a further 1,400 square metres. This mind
boggling Centre is unequalled in Australia.
The state of the art workshop has a range of skilled craftsman manufacturing the premier Austin Star Slide-on, which is sold right around Australia. The
repair and service facility is equipped with everything required to carry
out major accident damage repairs, or simply service a caravan. In many
cases, despite the busy-ness of the facility, we endeavour to fit in emergency
repairs.
Austins specialise in new vans - stocking six brands, secondhand caravans, refurbished units, sell car and farm trailers, do caravan repairs and modifications, sell towbars - being the northern Tasmanian stockist and distributor of Hayman Reese Towbars and Bullbars, and have plenty of camping gear. |
Marilyn
and Dennis commenced trading as Austins Caravans at Somerset in February
1989, operating initially in a grassy paddock without power or any facilities
for the first three months. With fourteen consecutive record financial
years, the business is firmly established as the major caravan and leisure
operators in Tasmania. Surprisingly, it is also one of the most diversified
of caravan businesses in Australia now believed to be the largest. Most
businesses concentrate on just one or two facets, such as selling vans
(and generally have only one or two major lines), parts or repairs. Being
in an area with a limited population, we had to spread the net as wide
as we could to survive. In November 2002 a rebuilding project saw the showroom area double in size and an adjacent block of land purchased and developed. Recently there have been amazing changes at Austins Caravans with a major re-building program. A new factory/workshop building has just been completed, along with a new office block with customer lounge and staff facilities. The existing building has been refitted out into a showroom to adequately display the increasing range of caravan parts and accessories and camping gear. In January 2004 a further major expansion took place. The neighbouring engineering business facility was purchased and our workshop and manufacturing was moved over. This workshop would equal the best repair facility in Australia and is also one of the busiest with repairs being carried out from all over Tasmania and a large number of tourists having vans serviced, airconditioners fitted, awnings, repairs etc. The former workshop has been converted to expand the showroom and the range of stock is unbelievable. It will take you a good hour to start doing justice to checking out the range. Austins has a range of skilled staff with various specialities. In all, the staff there is combined industry experience of over 120 years. Being based in an area with a smaller population, the business strategy has been to sell a little of a lot of products. As time has gone by, the business has substantially increased its sales and is a Tasmania wide business with the majority of business going to Hobart and Launceston. We now sell a lot of many products. The stock range is quite substantial with over 140 vans on display. Call in and see - you'll be amazed. Avan Campers, Roadstar Caravans, Concept Caravans, Camplet Campers and Cavalier Campers. The reason for having such a large range is the need to cater for all segments of the market, from the cheaper basic vans to the luxury caravans. Just to be different, Austins also manufacture their very own brand of slide-on camper, the 'Austin Star'. This will certainly be of interest to anyone who owns a tray vehicle. Already Austins are supplying these Slide-ons around Australia. Full details of this innovative award winning product can be seen on the slide on page. Being a locally owned business, Austins contribute to employment with sixteen full time staff and six part time staff. The business actually contributes to local tourism with folk travelling from all over Tasmania and often spending a night at local motels whilst either selecting a van or waiting to collect one. Tourists from around Australia call in by the dozen to see the exciting display. If you ever get the chance come on in for a visit - we'd love to see you. |
